Biographical / Historical

The Black is Beautiful initiative was launched by Weathered Souls Brewing in response to the civil unrest of 2020. It was a collaborative effort amongst the brewing community and its customers in an attempt to bring awareness to the injustices that many people of color face daily. More than 1,000 breweries participated in all 50 states and 22 countries.

Its mission was “to bridge the gap that's been around for ages and provide a platform to show that the brewing community is an inclusive place for everyone of any color.”

Participating breweries were given the Weatherd Souls base recipe (“a moderately high abv. stout to showcase the different shades of black”) and encouraged to add their own creative twists to it. They were also given a label designed by KD Designs that included space for a brewery’s own logo.

Weathered Souls donated proceeds to the Know Your Rights Campaign and said to collaborators, “as much as we want this to be about raising money, the real issue is bringing education and information, which will bring forth change to a system that has fractured so many families and has been broken for decades.” -Quotes by Marcus B. (Founder and Head Brewer of Weathered Souls)
