Mangum, Ed

Edward Mangum (1913–2001) was instrumental in the development of the theater arts program at St. Edwards University beginning in 1965, and helped with the design and construction of the “theater-in-the-round” stage still in use today.

Mangum’s early directing career included a stint as managing director of the Mount Vernon Methodist Church Players and as co-founder of the Arena Stage Theater, both in Washington D.C. Mangum later spent a number of years traveling and studying theater all over the world before settling in Austin.

During his prolific career at St. Edwards, Mangum founded and grew the theater arts program, taught its first classes, and served as chair of the department.
