MAPP/Estima Students Speak Out

MAPP/ Estima students speak out about their thoughts and feelings on the program

Conclusion

Most years, the annual newsletter, El Espejo, would take students' thoughts and reactions to the program to get feedback to improve the program for the next year. Most students were thrilled by everything they had learned over the summer and could not wait to go back home and put that knowledge to use. [16] Based on the statistics and reaction from the students and staff, it is easy to see the incredible impact this program had on the students. MAPP/Estima provided these students the opportunity to take rigorous university-level courses, work for a fair wage, and participate in exciting activites and programs over the span of two months. The opportunities that these students were exposed to at St. Edward's were experiences that they probably would have only dreamed of otherwise. In conclusion, this first of it's kind program changed the course of academic history not only at St. Edward's but in school districts and universities across the nation. Thanks to MAPP/Estima we have taken progressive steps towards a more flexible academic curriculum and equal opportunity education. Now, present day migrant students are still pushing boundaries in programs such as College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP), and we can expect to see more great things come from these types of programs and the students graduating from them.
