Conclusion

Higher education provided women with the means to better their lives. Women faced societal pressures from colleges that cornered them into the private sphere. Higher education provided women with the means to better their lives, and was a step in the right direction for women’s rights and equality. Academics opened up and offered women courses that would help shape their domestic lives. This helped to provide them with skills to be productive members of a ever changing society, although they still faced discrimination with higher education. The women of Maryhill College faced discrimination based on their sex but still managed to persevere within the academic sphere, and no matter how hard the men tried they should not completely separate themselves from the women. Women attending college or any form of higher education helped to stick their foot in the door for other women to come along and make decisions for themselves and to help change the world for the betterment of all women. As we previously stated, women have never been closer to equality than we are now and the least we can do is keep the movement going.
