General
Interview Summary: Sissy was among the first women to graduate from St. Edward’s University. In the beginning, she recalls that there was some resistance among some of her male classmates and faculty to the school becoming coed. However, she feels that the sisters protected them and emphasized the importance of their education. Sissy remembers having to follow many rules and regulations, something she was not accustomed to. Coming from Washington D.C., Sissy also experienced some culture shock in coming to Austin, then a very rural area. However, she was very close with her female peers on campus and even met her husband during her time at St. Edward’s! After graduating, she went on to teach English and moved to Mexico with her husband.
