General
Interview Summary: Robin Soto began her college career at Texas A&M in Corpus Christi with a focus on biology, but after two semesters there she felt dissatisfied. After a trip to see a performance at the Mary Moody Northen Theater, Robin fell in love with the Hilltop. She felt drawn to the theater in particular, and in the summer of 2001 she auditioned for her first season at MMNT. While at St. Edward’s Robin spent most of her time with other theater students. Robin was experiencing her first semester here when 9/11 occurred, and she recalls watching the story live with her friends during rehearsal for Romeo and Juliet. She remembers her professors encouraging students to take care of their mental health, especially when times were rough. Now, Robin works as a theater teacher in North Austin, but also works with Camp Shakespeare at Winedale and ScriptWorks in Austin. Robin thanks St. Edward’s for the experiences it provided her, and is a major advocate for the theater program’s collaboration with equity actors.
