Biographical / Historical

Mary Moody Northen Theatre (MMNT) is the award-winning producing arm of the Department of Performing Arts. Operating as a professional arena theater, MMNT offers programming that enriches, engages, and entertains both the St. Edward's campus and the greater Austin community.

At MMNT, students discover their voices as performers, producers, and storytellers. Each season features a dynamic range of productions from reimagined classics to regional premieres to musicals and contemporary works. These productions challenge our students artistically and offer audiences a thought-provoking and entertaining theatre experience.

Working alongside professional actors, directors, and designers, students gain real-world experience in all facets of theatrical production both on stage and behind the scenes. This approach, combined with performing arts coursework, is essential for launching careers in theatre and fostering a lifetime of creative growth. MMNT strives to build a more ethical, inclusive, and collaborative theatrical field.

St. Edward's is home to the only undergraduate performing arts program in the United States that produces a full season in agreement with the Actors’ Equity Association (AEA), the labor union of professional actors and stage managers. Through this agreement, Academy Award winners, Broadway veterans and TV and Film stars have shared the MMNT stage with SEU students.

Abstract

The Mary Moody Northen Theatre has been producing live theatre on the St. Edward's University campus since 1971.

Arrangement

This collection has been minimally processed and is arranged in two series: I. Productions; II. Departmental Records. Both are roughly chronological.

The productions series includes materials related to departmental and student events that are related but not always official MMNT productions.

Appraisal

This collection has been minimally processed. Production files from multiple sources were merged to create a single series and excessive duplicates were discarded. Personnel information was discarded. Files from mulitple program directors were merged into a single administrative series. Additional processing is needed to replace folders, remove duplication, and improve series arrangement.
